Highlighting Children’s Wellbeing – Episode #32

Highlighting Children’s Wellbeing – Episode #32

“Children are likely to live up to what you believe of them.”  — Lady Bird Johnson

Working with children is an absolute passion for me. There is magic in each and every child. It’s an honour to be in the presence of children and young people. It’s a gift to have conversations where we get to highlight their wellbeing. In this episode, I chat with Vicky Otter, a former teacher who followed her passion and now works as a wellbeing coach and facilitator. Vicky’s enthusiasm for all she does is evident. Vicky has such a lovely presence.

In this conversation we talk about:

  • Running a workshop without a set agenda;
  • The power of connection, when you are completely present in the moment, with little attachment to the outcome true connection is powerful.
  • All feelings are okay; and
  • The benefits of having a ‘come as you are’ conversation.

I’m so happy to have connected with Vicky. She has such a beautiful heart and passion for what she does. It’s nice to exchange ideas and takeaways. This conversation was a beautiful example of the power of connection and the beauty of conversation.

Here are a few thought bomb takeaways:

  • There are huge benefits to having a loose agenda for a workshop, doing so creates the opportunity for the participants to explore their own creativity;
  • Listen to yourself, that’s where the wisdom is;
  • In conversations the speaker often has a purpose in what they are sharing, what we often forget is that the listener will receive the information from their own personal lens – it is through that lens that they will hear the message; and
  • The power of connection is immeasurable when you are truly present you give the opportunity for those you work with or are conversing with to feel like they matter. As Vicky said with her pilot project, they came together as strangers and left as friends.

Children are so authentic. Take life with a pinch of sparkle…Best advice ever.

Until next time be well, be inspired, be you.

The Changing Relationship With Self and Others Through The Ebb and Flow of Life

The Changing Relationship With Self and Others Through The Ebb and Flow of Life

Happy Friday! You are in for a treat today. The conversation I have with my guest Shenan Charania in this episode is such a powerful one. The connection, ease and flow were amazing. We talk about the changing relationship with self and others through the ebb and flow of life.

Shenan’s life journey is so interesting. Currently, he is a transformative coach who works with inspirational leaders. He has a lovely presence which I think you will hear.

During this conversation, we take a deep dive into:

  • How looking for a sense of belonging led to being involved with gang life for over ten years and the realization that a sense of belonging doesn’t come from others, things, experiences;
  • Distorted perspectives and how they play out in life;
  • The journey of self during the journey of life. From the gangster lifestyle to owning a Tim Horton’s to being a coach; and
  • Shame and guilt for past behaviours and choices don’t serve you.

Here are a few thought bomb takeaways:

  • Distorted thinking leads to distorted actions. When someone has a shift in perspective, relationships change in immeasurable ways;
  • Our own interpretation of the past changes as we evolve in our own personal growth;
  • People spend so much time, money and effort searching for the answers to who am I and where do I belong from others, books, drugs, alcohol, food, etc. These efforts are futile, it is only when we shift the direction of our search inwards will we find the answers; and
  • The most beautiful relationship you will ever be in is the one with yourself.

I enjoy reading your emails and appreciate your feedback.

Until next time: Be well. Be inspired. Be You.

The Secret to Successful Relationships Starts With You

The Secret to Successful Relationships Starts With You

New podcast episode and a new direction 🙂

I’ve decided to change things up in the new year. Moving forward I am going to try a more thematic approach. So each month, my conversations and guests will focus on a particular theme. I’m really excited about this shift! I’m starting with the basics – for the next month, my conversations will be focused on relationships.

Relationships are such an important aspect of every part of our lives and we are going to cover the relationships with self, romantic relationships, parenting and in the workplace. I can’t wait to share these conversations with you. In this episode, I welcome my friend, fellow coach and business owner Oscar Licon. The thing that has always stood out for me in my conversations with Oscar is his beautiful presence. Don’t take my word for it, listen to the episode and experience it for yourself.

Among other things, Oscar and I chat about:

  • The importance of presence in all relationships;
  • What you are bringing to the relationship is based your state of mind and the quality of relationship you have with yourself;
  • The importance of understanding your experience of life and your relationships comes from within; and
  • The beauty and space for growth the ebb and flow of relationships.

Here are a few thought bomb takeaways:

  • Our experience of life is based on the quality of relationship we have with each other and more so with ourselves;
  • When we are in our heads, caught up in a thought storm we don’t really notice things and people;
  • If you approach your relationships with curiosity and wonder, rather than judgement or criticism, you will be in a beautiful space where there is infinite potential;
  • When you are connecting with another person, do so to understand how they see their world, doing so will deepen your connection; and
  • If you are in a stressful or tumultuous relationship with yourself, this will affect every relationship you have. So fall completely and utterly in love with the amazing being that you are.

Please continue to send me your feedback and questions, they help me serve you in my conversations. By the way, I’m loving the community we are creating. If you enjoyed this episode I would be really grateful if you could leave a review on iTunes.

Until next time: Be well. Be inspired. Be You.

Much love,

Jessie-Lynn

Intuitive Eating and The Wisdom Behind Living A Healthy Life

Intuitive Eating and The Wisdom Behind Living A Healthy Life

Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and are looking forward to 2019 with curiosity, wonder and love.

My conversation with Danielle Lithwick is a perfect way to start the new year on the CPR of Life podcast. Danielle is an Intuitive Eating Coach, body positivist and Personal Trainer. I met her at a social event focused on connection – one of my favourite things. Much of what Danielle points to in her work is parallel with the understanding I work from, that we have innate wisdom within that is available to guide us. Danielle points to this wisdom in her work as a coach and trainer. I enjoyed learning more about her as well as what she does. Danielle is a sweet soul, I enjoyed connecting with her.

During this conversation we chat about:

  • What being body positive means;
  • The ten principles Danielle focuses on as an Intuitive Eating Coach;
  • Why it’s important to honour your hunger; and
  • Emotional eating.

Here are a few thought bomb takeaways:

  • Our innate wisdom includes healthy eating signals;
  • There is a difference between respecting your body versus loving your body;
  • The concept of ‘ideal’ is made up, and differs from person to person, therefore searching for the ideal is futile; and
  • Trust the wisdom of your body, it will never lead you wrong.

I loved the message Danielle promotes, it’s one that makes a lot of sense to me. In my opinion, it’s one that everyone should embrace. Danielle has a vast amount of experience and she definitely embraces her message. She has a great new program coming up, the details are below.

This conversation was a great example of how we have an inbuilt capacity to deal with every aspect of life. Letting go and leaning into trusting our innate wisdom is a beautiful way to start this new year.

Thank-you for listening. I would be grateful if you could leave a review on iTunes. If you have any comments or feedback please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Until next time: Be well. Be inspired. Be You.

Much love,

Jessie-Lynn

Just Play

Just Play

Just Play

This is the last podcast episode before Christmas. For those of you who celebrate I want to wish you a Happy Christmas. I hope that you take time to pause, this time of year can become overwhelmingly busy. Take time to pause, listen to your body and exercise your right to say no and most of all enjoy the moment.

People schedule themselves back to back, have late nights, and have a tendency to eat and drink more at this time of year. While this hopefully is a lot of fun, it can also lead to higher levels of anxious and sad thoughts, and more low mood thinking. This is often the result of being overtired, not eating well, not taking the time to pause.

So my wish for you is this: enjoy the amazing power of connection with your loved ones, and also with yourself. Listen to your wisdom, when your body and mind has had enough, needs some rest, needs time and space to let the dust settle be extra kind to yourself. Give yourself the gift of time, have a nap (naps are amazing), read a book, go for a walk in nature, eat a healthy dose of fruits and veg. All are types of elixirs for the mind and/or body.

I’m going to close out the year with a personal chat on the next episode. This week I have the pleasure of connecting with Nick Bottini. Nick and I went through Clarity coach training together. First and foremost he is a beautiful soul, as well as an author and coach working in the music industry. Nick has just released a book Just Play, it’s a beautiful read that I highly recommend to those who are curious about the connection between state of mind and flow state.

In this wonderful conversation Nick and I talk about:

  • The psychology of performance;
  • Mental health and the flow state in performance; and
  • The process of writing a book.

Here are a few thought bomb takeaways:

  • Mental health (being mentally healthy) is the same for those in the music industry, sports, artists, business, etc. it’s the same for all humans ;
  • Searching for the magic in the success of others is futile, your own magic is within;
  • Resilience isn’t defined by hard work, practice, etc. it’s something innate. We don’t have to search for it. It is within each and every one of us; and
  • If you go looking for ‘flow state’ outside of yourself you will go on an endless search.

I have to be honest when I first picked up Nick’s book I was interested in reading it because he had written it. I wasn’t far into the book when I realized the message in his book is one that all humans, whether performers or not should hear. I encourage you to pick up a copy.

I’m loving the feedback and personal notes. If you have any comments or feedback please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Until next time: Be well. Be inspired. Be You.

Much love,

Jessie-Lynn

Live Your Best Life 101

Live Your Best Life 101

Live Your Best Life 101

This episode is a great one. I loved my conversation with the witty and wise Amir Karkouti. In addition to being a loving husband and father, Amir owns several restaurants, he’s a kick-ass coach and works at a recovery centre. I had the honour and pleasure of participating in a Professional Coaching course with Amir and Ankush Jain, it was a such a fabulous journey. The two of them work together in such an inspiring and complimentary way. What I’ve seen with Amir time and time again is that he shows up fully and gives with such an open heart.

This conversation is a great one, among other things we chat about:

  • Taking action despite the quality of our thinking in the moment;
  • Even if we look different from the outside, we are all looking for the same thing on the inside;
  • When we are trying to figure out life from a conceptual place we are not living; and
  • The power of showing up and doing our best.

Here are a few thought bomb takeaways:

  • The secret ingredient in life, coaching, business, etc. is showing up as YOU;
  • There is no-one who can do you better than you;
  • Life flows much better when we are not caught up in trying to conceptualize everything; and
  • The heart of the matter IS what matters.

If you enjoy this episode I would be grateful if you could leave a review on iTunes. If you think others would enjoy it please feel free to share. If you have any comments or feedback please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Until next time: Be well. Be inspired. Be You.
